I chose to do texture because im quite interested in wrinkles, cracks and sharp edges. I think it will be cool to see what ill come up with because i intend to do it slightly differently to most texture based pictures. I plan to experiment with people and materials to take pictures of, for example an old wrinkly man like in the photo above or a crack in the ground. I intend to put most of my pictures in black and white because I love things that contrast and in my opinion the best way to do that is either have your picture in black and white or vibrant colours but i really like black and white pictures so ill probably stick with that unless i get a really good better idea.

My edited first set of images
This photo by JFabra I think is very good because it shows lots of interesting lines textures and features but also has a bit of context to go with it. I like how it shows lots of contrast and dramatic features but is also about an elephant behind an electric fence which really gets you thinking. I like the textures because they are very deep wrinkles and have a very cool way of flowing round an object and they turn a very plain background into something a lot cooler and more interesting.
Fred Mortagne AKA FrenchFred |
Fred Mortagne is a french, mainly skateboarding photographer/film maker who I really like because of the dark, black and white photos with textures that have different techniques of display mixed together. I really like how he mixes intelligent ideas with photographic styles and skateboarding keeping all the photos extremely cool but still displaying a clear trick or silhouette. Another thing I like about this photographer is the colours and grain that seems to come up a lot in his photos which makes them all look really good. It also shows all the detail in the texture that is why i have linked it to my mock.

My Final Evaluation
For my unit one I didnt really look at too many artists apart from French Fred (Fred Mortagne) who I was made aware about by my uncle who I also constantly talk to about my ideas and ways I could change them. I mainly got my inspiration from things like nature documentaries because they get the really close up detailed images that is really hard to recreate. I also got my inspiration from my uncles photos as his photos have quite a lot of contrast and texture. I have invested texture and in a way I suppose I explored colour mixing or something like that im not aware of an actual name for it but i liked looking at how different colours looked together and how they looked under different light and conditions. I found that using dusted up coloured chalk was a good way of creating some nice textures and colour mixes, I think that it was quite a good idea although I could have looked more into creating different textures as I found and stuck to this idea quite quickly. I experimented with different ways of displaying the coloured dust, for example putting it onto some tin foil type of material and then shining lots of like off of it. This kind of worked although I couldnt get the detail i wanted or the right amount of close up to the photo as we didnt have the right lenses for the type of close up shot i wanted. We tried using a macro lense but even that was not strong enough.
